DECISION OF THE CORONER'S JURY MAY CAUSE MAN TO BE LYNCHED
Mobile, Ala., March 12 -- (Special) -- News arrived here today by steamboat from Frankville, Ala., telling of the murder near that place of W. H. Reynolds, supposed to have been committed by Tom Williams.
It is said that Reynolds hauled Williams to the steamboat landing in a buggy, and being unable to arrange for a skiff to carry him across the Tombigbee river, Williams, at the point of a pistol, ordered Reynolds to drive him to Frankville. Reynolds was found dead by the side of the road, shot in the mouth.
A posse was formed and Williams was found asleep in Reynolds' buggy some distance from the scene where the murder took place. Williams was bound and tied to a tree to await the coroner's inquest, and it is feared if he is proven guilty by the coroner's jury he will be lynched. |
