The Atlanta Constitution
Undertaker and Sexton Indicted

Birmingham, Ala., November 23 -- (Special) -- Major Miller, the county
undertaker, and William Houston, the sexton at the Red Mountain cemetery,
were indicted by the grand jury today on a charge of obtaining money by
false pretenses. The indictments are in connection with the excitement
recently stirred up by the county commissioners in digging up a pauper
grave and finding four baby bodies in it. The county claims Miller
charged them with four separate funerals at $2.40 each, whereas he should
have charged for only one. Miller claims he buried four bodies and
charged for four. In the same manner the sexton is alleged to have
charged for four graves when he dug only one. Both gentlemen feel sure of
acquittal under the working of their contracts.
