Newspaper Items & Articles, Obituaries, Death & Funeral Notices
Resource provided by Southern Graves
Old newspapers are a great genealogy and history research tool. Much can be learned about the history of a location or a general time period. Family history researchers can find many vital records (births, marriages, deaths) and learn about the day to day lives of ancestors. I have transcribed many items relating to the last vital record of death using old newspapers. You can find links to them below.
Many local libraries have old newspapers on microfilm, available to researchers. Genealogy libraries, state archives, and many colleges have larger collections. When these resources are not available to you, I would highly recommendAncestry's Historical Newspapers Collection. A subscription is priced at under $5 a month, and they are adding to it on a regular basis. Currently, they have images of original newspapers online from 48 states, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, a subscription includes access to an obituary collection that contains more than 2 million obituaries. Most of the following was obtained with a subscription to the Historical Newspapers Collection, and I am a satisfied customer. You can start your journey back in time and see your ancestors in a new light with a2 week Free trial.
Most of the following records were transcribed from news items found in The Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta, Georgia. There are items pertaining to other southern states, as well, and I have divided them accordingly. In the event more than one location is mentioned, I have listed them under each one. If you have any newspaper items or articles, obituaries, death or funeral notices to submit, please email Stephanie, webmaster of SouthernGraves.i-found-it.net .
